Transportation System
You can build in multiple cities and transport between them at level 4
You can purchase trains and other vehicles at level 10
Transportation System Overview
- Moving products between cities requires special transportation. To access the local schedule choose "Transport" for any product in your Warehouse.
- You must have a warehouse in the destination city before you will be able to ship anything.
- Shipping is done by renting cargo containers, each of which holds a limited number of a single type of product. The container costs the same amount to ship whether completely or partially filled, so it may not be efficient to ship small amounts.
- Transportation costs have four components. They are paid for each cargo container used.
- Loading Fee. This can be reduced to zero by building a Shipping Dock from the sending city in your Warehouse Add-Ons.
- Unloading Fee. This can be reduced to zero by building a Receiving Dock in the destination city in your Warehouse Add-Ons.
- Container Rental Fee. This is charged per mile, and covers external expenses like taxes, track fees, etc.
- Transporter's Fee. This is charged by the owner of the shipping company at a per-mile rate of their choice.
- Transport vehicles can either be held for personal use or assigned to a schedule. Both are loaded through the Warehouse, but only owners will have the option to access their personal-use vehicles.
Transport Hubs
|
Cost to Operate: Mileage charge and upkeep per vehicle |
Expansion: No. |
Conversion: No. |
Upgrades: None. |
Other Factors: Any number of vehicles can be purchased and put to use. |
- A company that has reached level 10 will see a new option on the Construction page for a Transport Hub. It is required before any trains or other vehicles can be owned.
- Unlike most buildings the Transport Hub isn't part of any particular city. It's purpose is to act as a management location for all vehicles wherever they are.
- The Transport Hub requires 3 land slots.
- Premium accounts give extra land slots which become unavailable if the premium status expires. The Transport Hub can not be blocked out in this case and will always count as 3 of your available land slots. (See the Premium Account section for more information on Gold and Platinum.)
- When constructing a Transport Hub you have the option to choose a vehicle specialty: Railroad Wheelhouse, Seaport, Truck Depot, or Airport. This will affect the way your Hub looks but has no other effect. A Hub owner can purchase and use any type of vehicle offered.
- The Transport Hub has an Expense Account, used to pay automatic fees. (See below.)
Vehicle Finances
- Several types of vehicles are available for purchase, offering different speeds at different costs. All are built around the same pricing components:
- Purchase Cost: The original price of the vehicle.
- Weekly Upkeep : This pays for vehicle maintenance and the salaries of the staff who run it. It's due every week even if nothing was transported. If not paid the vehicle will be confiscated to pay your employees. To avoid this always have enough cash in your Expense Account.
- Mileage Cost: The cost of actually using your transport. If running on a schedule this will be taken from your Expense Account. If Private Use then you will pay out of cash at the time of departure.
- Schedule Publishing Fee: This one-time cost is paid for publishing a schedule. That schedule will repeat indefinitely for as long as the transport is able to run with no new costs. Personal Use vehicles have no fee.
Schedules
- Schedules can be published for any non-busy vehicle by issuing orders and paying the publishing fee.
- Begin a schedule by selecting a starting day and time for the first trip.
- Schedules can't start less than 2 hours after publishing. If the first trip would occur sooner than that it will be scheduled for the following week instead.
- All times are relative to the user's Time Zone as set in Options. Before publishing make sure your time is set correctly.
- For each trip set a destination and an amount of time to wait after arriving (minimum 1 hour).
- A schedule must form a complete loop, starting and ending in the same city. This allows it to repeat indefinitely. There can be any number of trips to it.
- It is recommended that the total time for a schedule (including final wait) come out to exactly 1 or 2 (or more) weeks with no partial left over. Doing so means that when the schedule repeats it will always make the same trips on the same day and time, so your customers can plan around it.
